RECOFTC in Viet Nam

RECOFTC in Viet Nam

Since its early days, RECOFTC has helped provide capacity building for Vietnamese forestry professionals. In early 1990, the first group of trainees from Vietnam at RECOFTC came back and developed a CFM training curriculum for university students at Vietnam Forestry University. For the last decade, an increasing number of staff from state forestry entities and non-state organizations has benefited from capacity building activities delivered by RECOFTC in Vietnam and overseas. RECOFTC has contributed independent analysis and recommendations to Vietnam’s community forestry policy processes in the past that is acknowledged by government officials and other stakeholders.

RECOFTC continues to implement analytical and capacity-building activities in the country, and support the development of policy guidance for CFM and more importantly the implementation of CFM in the field. With Viet Nam’s continued economic growth and vibrant forest sector, and the effect of this on forest communities and resources as well as the country’s role as a regional and global trading partner, there is an ongoing need for communities to have the capacities, processes, and knowledge to gain advantages while ensuring environmental sustainability and equitable benefits from the sector.
