ASFN plans 6th ASFN Conference with Myanmar’s Department of Forestry

RECOFTC – The Center for People and Forests, as one of the supporting partners of the ASEAN-Swiss Partnership on Social Forestry and Climate change (ASFCC) supporting the ASEAN Social Forestry Network (ASFN), joined the ASFN courtesy call to the government of Myanmar. The purpose of the meeting was to prepare for the 6th ASFN Conference and 9th Annual Meeting in Myanmar in 2015.

The ASFN delegates were representatives of ASFCC supporting partners: CIFOR, ICRAF, NTFP-EP, RECOFTC and SEARCA.

"Myanmar is proud to have a chance to host the 6th ASFN Conference in 2015 and we will do our best to support the event,” said Dr. Nyi Nyi Kyaw, the Director General of Myanmar’s Department of Forestry.

The meeting was set in preparation for the ASFN Conference to be organized in early June 2015. Myanmar’s Department of Forestry will coordinate relevant bodies to prepare any logistical arrangements with support from ASFN Secretariat and ASFCC partners.

The annual conference is one of ASFN’s flagship activities, and is hosted on rotation by ASEAN countries. Each year, more than 200 participants from ASEAN governments, civil society organizations (CSOs), private sector and academic/research institutions attend the conference to share their thoughts, ideas and experiences on community forestry and climate change with in an effort to mainstream community forestry in the region while scaling-up its impacts.
