Asia-Pacific Climate Week 2023
The Asia-Pacific Climate Week 2023 (APCW 2023) is one of four Regional Climate Weeks taking place this year. These events aim to build momentum leading up to the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). COP28 is scheduled to be held in Dubai from November 30 to December 12, 2023. The series of Regional Climate Weeks, organized under the guidance of the UNFCCC, is designed to pave the way for achieving the key goals of the Paris Agreement.
The government of Malaysia will host APCW 2023, which is set to take place from November 13 to 17, 2023, in the city of Johor Bahru. With generous support from the Rights and Resources Initiative, RECOFTC will be sending a delegation to this significant event. In addition to providing support for the travel of Indigenous Peoples and local communities, RECOFTC will host an Action Hub event on the first day of the conference and will also be a key speaker at another Action Hub event.
Learning how to Adapt: Stories from Indigenous elders and youth on Traditional Ecological Knowledge

In a world where global temperatures are rapidly approaching the 1.5 °C limit, the urgency of adapting to climate change has never been more evident. While current adaptation strategies predominantly focus on infrastructure and technology, the invaluable Traditional Ecological Knowledge of Indigenous Peoples remains a significant, often untapped resource.
This interactive, storytelling Action Hub session aims to amplify the voices of Indigenous Peoples and will provide Indigenous leaders, activists, and community members a platform to share their experiences, knowledge, and time-tested nature-based climate adaptation practices. Their stories will provide insights for the broader global community to draw upon. We hope to highlight specific strategies and knowledge that may lead to innovations in our own design of adaptation interventions.

Transformational adaptation with forests and trees: securing rights and accessing finance at the local level

The fishbowl dialogue, co-organized by CIFOR-ICRAF, FAO Forests and Climate team, the BASE Initiative and UNEP, will gather voices from academia, civil society and forest communities. Speakers will delve into discussions on going beyond business-as-usual, focusing on incremental adaptation to promote just climate action and transformational adaptation.
At the dialogue, RECOFTC Thailand's Country Director, Warangkana Rattanarat will present RECOFTC’s approach to forest landscape restoration, in particular our Trees4all project – a pioneering crowdfunding initiative for forest landscape restoration in Thailand. The project works with local people, incentivizing tree planting for forest landscape restoration and addressing their climate adaptation needs.
