The 26th World Congress of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) will convene in Stockholm under the theme ‘Forests and Society Towards 2050’. This event will set the future research agenda on forests, focusing on forests' contributions to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The IUFRO World Congress seeks to address the changes anticipated by 2050 due to climate change, population growth, globalization and an expanding global economy, all of which will put pressure on forests and their governance. 2050 is the target year to achieve the Convention on Biological Diversity’s vision of living in harmony with nature.

RECOFTC will participate actively to amplify our impact and contribute significantly to the discussions on forestry and related issues. David Ganz, our executive director, will be leading our delegation. He will be joined by Peter Cutter, director of program coordination and technical services; Srijana Baral, senior program officer, gender equality and social inclusion; Marina Tornorsam, regional project manager for Community-Based Fire Management; Utsav Maden, communication and engagement officer; and Nathalie Faure, former senior program officer for forest governance, institutions and conflict transformation. Also joining will be a team from the Wyss Academy for Nature, Southeast Asia Hub, which is hosted by RECOFTC. Horst Weyerhäuser, hub lead and Pin Pravalprukskul, program manager will be part of the delegation.

RECOFTC and the Wyss Academy Southeast Asia Hub will have a dedicated exhibition booth at the IUFRO World Congress. Please visit booth A03:25 to connect with our team and learn about our on-the-ground actions on sustainable forest management in the Asia-Pacific region. You will also be able to connect with our Explore project, which is the only research network in the world focused on forest landscape governance.

About RECOFTC and the Wyss Academy

RECOFTC is an international nonprofit organization working towards a future where resilient communities with respected rights thrive in forest landscapes that they manage sustainably and equitably. We operate in the Asia-Pacific region, with country offices in Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand and Viet Nam. RECOFTC hosts the Southeast Asia Hub of the Wyss Academy for Nature.

The Wyss Academy offers a new approach to pressing issues at the intersection of climate change, biodiversity loss and land use change, as well as their implications for human wellbeing and inequality. Wyss Academy works with stakeholders to co-develop, test and catalyze solutions that transform the relationship between people and nature.
