RECOFTC at the 8th IUCN Asia Regional Conservation Forum
RECOFTC will participate in the 8th IUCN Asia Regional Conservation Forum (RCF) to be held from 3 to 5 September 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand. With the theme "Reimagining Conservation in Asia: A Nature-Positive Future," the forum serves as an important platform for exchanging knowledge and building partnerships in nature and biodiversity conservation across Asia.
Held every four years, the RCF aims to evaluate conservation progress, revisit priority goals and propose strategic directions to address environmental and biodiversity challenges over the next two decades.
The forum will feature various sessions, including plenary and thematic discussions, side events, poster exhibits and interactive learning opportunities to foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders, such as governments, non-governmental organizations, Indigenous Peoples, academia and the private sector.
RECOFTC will contribute to discussions on nature-based solutions for climate action and forest landscape restoration with our Executive Director David Ganz leading the delegation. He will share initiatives on strengthening local governance of nature-based solutions in forests and agriculture such as our Trees4All project.
As the secretariat of the Regional Model Forest Network-Asia, we will co-host a side event featuring Asia Model Forests. This event will showcase collaborative efforts in forest landscape restoration, biodiversity conservation, risk reduction, community empowerment and climate resiliency. Ganz will provide a regional perspective on opportunities and partnerships for landscape approaches in Asia. Marina Tornorsam, our Regional Project Manager for the Community-based Fire Management project, will share lessons and good practices from the Lower Mekong Subregion in strengthening partnerships alongside community-based solutions for managing wildfires.
We will also have a poster presentation highlighting community forestry's significant potential as an emerging conservation category within Other Effective Conservation Measures (OECMs).
As a member of the National Committee of IUCN in Thailand, we will showcase our work and projects at the co-exhibition space. Visit us at our booth!

Thailand National Committee Members’ Co-exhibition

The RCF is organized by IUCN and co-organized by the National Committee of IUCN Members in Thailand. The event is co-hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Government of Thailand, with Toyota Motor Asia (Thailand) Co. Ltd. as a forum partner.
