RECOFTC Attends 8th Annual AWG-SF Conference
On 26 June 2018, members of RECOFTC - The Center for People and Forests participated in the 8th AWG - SF Conference in Da Nang, Viet Nam.
The annual conference is one of the flagship activities of the ASEAN Working Group on Social Forestry (AWG - SF), which organized the first meeting in 2010 to discuss and develop recommendations on various emerging issues in the ASEAN region with support from the ASFCC.
As an implementing partner, RECOFTC provided valuable input at this year's annual meeting. Mr. Ronnakorn Triraganon, Manager of Capacity Development and Technical Services, moderated a conference on social forestry policy recommendations, which will be reported to ASEAN Senior Officials on Forestry (ASOF) and translated into concrete actions and commitments at the national levles.
Overall, however, the main objective of the conference was to promote Agroforestry development for food security and climate change mitigation and resilience in Southeast Asia. The Regional Agroforestry Guideline developed by ICRAF with support from other implementing partners, including RECOFTC, will help accelerate the expansion of agroforestry within the region.
The regional joint training course between ICRAF and RECOFTC on Agroforestry for Climate Change Resilient Landscapes will be held in July 2018 and is one of the milestones from the conference.
