RECOFTC and APFNet extends partnership, focus to strengthen CF development in Asia and the Pacific region
August 26, 2015 - Beijing, China. RECOFTC - The Center for People and Forests and the Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation (APFNet) renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and will continue to work together to promote community-based forestry development in the Asia and the Pacific region for the next five years.
“RECOFTC and APFNet should carry out collaborative activities in community forestry on the ground, since both of our organizations share common goals,” Dr. De stressed. Dr. Thaung agreed and suggested that the two organizations “try to summarize the best practices of community forestry models in the region by leveraging on mutual strengths.”
The renewed agreement for 2015-2020 maps out an elaborated scope of cooperation focused on community forestry, with the overall goal of strengthening the capacity of governments, communities and other relevant sectors in sustainable community-based forest management and rehabilitation in the Asia-Pacific region. The partnership will be facilitated through technical cooperation, exchange of information and materials, capacity development and growth of knowledge networks.
