Capacity development, research and good governance in the forest sector are fundamental to building a resilient future for forests. It is necessary to invest in research in order to facilitate evidence-based policymaking.
However, the COVID-19 effects, fewer young foresters working in the forest sector and insufficient and outdated approaches to capacity development are major challenges in Asia's forest sector. But these challenges can pose new opportunities for innovative ways of blended learning which can reach out to wider audiences or participation.
Through this in-person, pre-World Forestry Congress event, the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) will provide a platform for networking among forest research institutes and an opportunity for young scientists to learn from each other by sharing ongoing research.
RECOFTC is organizing a session during the Asian Forest Forum focused on the best practices and capacity building needs in forest governance that can implement policies on the ground.
