Potential of community forestry as OECMs in Asia
Other Effective Area Based Conservation Measures (OECMs) have gained significant importance under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, which commits countries to conserve 30 percent of terrestrial, inland water, coastal and marine areas by 2030. Their adoption could offer an opportunity to achieve large-scale area-based conservation targets and reduce biodiversity loss. OECM recognition should be accompanied by a comprehensive framework of clear, explicit and culturally appropriate incentives that tangibly benefit local communities while supporting conservation objectives.
