ASSESSING THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SCALING UP COMMUNITY FORESTRY AND COMMUNITY
FORESTRY ENTERPRISES IN MYANMAR

 

This report was prepared by a World Bank team led by Martin Fodor and Stephen Ling. The team was composed of Aye Marlar Win, Aung Kyaw Naing, David Gritten, Kyaw Htun, Lesya Verheijen, Lwin Lwin Aung, Martin Greijmans, Nina Doetinchem, Robert Oberndorf, Ronnakorn Triraganon, Thiri Aung, and Werner Kornexl. 

The report was prepared under overall guidance of the Community Forestry Unit of the Forest Department in the Myanmar Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation in partnership with The Center for People and Forests (RECOFTC), Istituto Oikos and Rakhine Coastal Region Conservation Association (RCA), working under the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) funded DAFNE project in South Rakhine (Grant number: AID010581/OIKOS/BUR).

The team is extremely grateful to the Community Forest User Group members of Oh Htein, Ba Win, Myo Kwin, So Bone, Khattu, Tone Taw, Kyar Nyo, Kyaung Kone, and Kyauk Gyi Community Forests in South Rakhine. Furthermore, we also wish to express our thanks to the participants in the national and township workshops that were held to put forward recommendations to support the further development of community forestry.
