Starting in March, negotiators and thought leaders from the Asia-Pacific region will discuss outcomes and analyze the implications of the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference for climate change work and the land-use sector in the region.

The consultation is first in a series of events initiated by an umbrella coalition that includes: RECOFTC, Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, FAO project Supporting the Koronivia joint Work on Agriculture (KJWA-Plus), ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN Working Group on Social Forestry, ASEAN Working Group on Forests and Climate Change, Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), ASEAN Climate Resilience Network and ASEAN Negotiating Group for Agriculture and the GIZ Agritrade Project

The coalition is building capacity to increase climate ambition in the land-use sector and effectively engage Asia-Pacific countries in processes related to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, an international environmental treaty to achieve climate change goals. The coalition initiative will include various events in the lead up to COP27.

Participants in the March consultations will map out land sector based issues and entry-points for contributing to the goals of the Paris Agreement and Glasgow Pact, and accelerating climate measures in the Asia-Pacific region.

The series of events planned by the coalition in March include:

  • Event 1: Post COP26 Synthesis of Key Outcomes for Land Use Sector in Asia-Pacific, 1 to 3 March 2022
  • Event 2: Transforming agriculture through resilient and low emission practices, the role of KJWA and the Methane Pledge, 15 to 16 March 2022
  • Event 3: Scaling ambitious actions through partnerships, 22 March 2022

Participation is by invitation only.

The organizers will release a synthesis of proceedings and conclusions.
