Webinar on silviculture for sustainable forest management in Nepal

RECOFTC is organizing a webinar on silviculture for sustainable forest management in Nepal in association with the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), the Institute for World Forestry and the University of Hamburg.

The webinar is open to technical experts, forestry administration, academia, researchers and other stakeholders from the forestry sector in Nepal and internationally.

Participants will be able to advance their understanding of the application of silviculture approaches for sustainable forest management.

Panelists will present on the following topics:

  • History of scientific forest management in Nepal 
  • Ecology and economics of silviculture in natural forests
  • Stem rot and its implications for silviculture in the Terai Sal forest of Nepal
  • Silviculture options for managing hill forests in Nepal: Lessons from the EnLiFT project
  • Silviculture options for managing pine plantations in Nepal
  • Silviculture based Forestry in Nepal: Existing Practice and Challenges

Panelists include:

  • Vijay Subedi, Under Secretary, Ministry of Industry Tourism Forests and Environment, Province 5, Nepal
  • Sony Baral,Member of city Planning Commission, Pokhara Lekhnath Municipality, Nepal
  • Prem Raj Neupane Hamburg, Professor, University of Hamburg, Germany 
  • Shambhu Dangal, Country Representative, RECOFTC Nepal 
  • Michael Kohl, Professor, University of Hamburg, Germany

After the presentations, the panelists will engage in a discussion followed by a question and answer session with participants.
