About the International Model Forest Network

The International Model Forest Network (IMFN) is a voluntary global community of members who support and promote sustainable forest landscape management through the model forest approach. More than 60 Model Forests in more than 30 countries are members of the IMFN. Together this is the world’s largest network dedicated to sustainable landscape governance.

The Government of Canada launched the IMFN in 1992 at the UN Conference on Environment and Development (the Earth Summit) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Since then, six regional networks have formed under the IMFN. The IMFN’s Secretariat is in Ottawa, Canada.

The six regional networks under IMFN are:

  • African Model Forest Network
  • Canadian Model Forest Network
  • Latin-American Model Forest Network
  • Mediterranean Model Forest Network
  • Northern Europe and Russia
  • Regional Model Forest Network–Asia
