New Report by V4MF Highlights Urgency of Forest Governance Reform
"Arguably the key underlying driver for forest cover change in the region is governance," write the authors of the newly released Voices for Mekong Forests Study.
The report, titled "Addressing Forest Governance Challenges in the Greater Mekong Subregion," does well to break down this statement, qualifying it with solid evidence and research produced by both a Governance Needs Assessment Study and a Capacity Development Needs Assessment.
The findings were clear. Although forest governance laws indeed exist, they are often times prone to systematic failures in the implementation, compliance, and enforcement of such laws. Therefore, stronger emphasis must be placed on strengthening all aspects of forest governance.
