Session 5: Youth and gender inclusion in forestry

Participants in “Youth and gender inclusion in forestry” will work to strengthen the fundamental theme of Stream 2: inclusive and equitable cooperation. Youth and women are marginalized in forestry decision-making and implementation. Yet, they are greatly affected by decisions made by others. Excluding these two demographics has serious consequences for building resilient forest landscapes. 

Women and youth play a pivotal role in natural resource management. A recent discussion paper by UN Women and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) shows increasing participation leads to improvements in local natural resource governance, conservation efforts and more sustainable livelihoods.

Leading voices on youth and gender in the forestry sector will analyze the roles of youth and women in forestry and their implications for social forestry management. Discussions will identify interventions to support the roles of youth and women in forestry decision-making at all levels.
