Session 7: Strong forest governance for people and forests living in harmony

Strong governance

21 June 2019 | 13:30-15:00

“Strong forest governance for people and forests living in harmony,” tackles the complex relationships between governance and sustainable resource management in the Asia-Pacific.

Throughout the region, countries are making significant efforts to strengthen forest governance through international initiatives such as FLEGT VPA, REDD+ and EITI as well as national programs related to community forestry.

This session will explore the importance of good forest governance for achieving harmonious landscapes by questioning the principles underlying international and national programs and the relationships between actors. By the end of the session, participants will have heard from experts in a variety of fields and understand the importance of good forest governance and practices that strengthen forest governance. They will also develop an action plan for strengthening forest governance in their own work.
