Consultation on technology and innovation in community-based fire management in Nan, Thailand

Organized under RECOFTC’s Community-based Fire Management (CBFiM) project in Thailand, this consultation will seek insights from community members and local stakeholders to enhance context-appropriate fire-management tools and technologies. This includes review, risk reduction, readiness, response and recovery as part of the integrated fire management framework.

The CBFiM project responds to the escalating climate crisis and aligns with the Global Goals and the Thai government's objective to reduce average PM 2.5 levels by 40% and burning by 50% through multi-sectoral collaboration.

Objectives

  • Discuss potential technologies and innovations for community-based fire management planning and implementation
  • Integrate gender considerations into the participatory process through interactive workshop sessions and knowledge-sharing opportunities 
  • Present a community-level fire management plan
  • Exchange and brainstorm ideas on appropriate technology and innovation to support community-based fire management in Nan Province
  • Assess the necessity to support technology and innovation and plan operations for the same

Participants

Representatives from the forest fire, haze and PM 2.5 situation monitoring working group of Nan Province, representatives from the sub-district administrative organizations and municipalities, heads of the Development Project for Security in Nan Watershed under the Royal Initiative, community leaders, representatives from non-governmental organizations, fire management specialists and RECOFTC staff.

Expected outcomes

The consultation will deepen our understanding of innovations and appropriate technologies for adoption in community-based fire management.
The insights from RECOFTC’s engagement with local actors will enable us to identify suitable tools and technologies to be incorporated into all phases of integrated fire management and CBFiM.
